What's the Best Oil for Lawn Mower?

Hey folks, I'm confused aabout what oil to use in my lawn mower. I seen a couple different types at the store, and I ain't sure if I should go with synthetic or the regular stuff. Irregardless, I want to make sure I'm not damaging my mower. Some say 10W-30 is good for most mowers but I've heard 30 weight is better too. What do you got? Also, does it really matter if I use a specific brand? Thanks for the help!

Cooler temps = thinner oil.
Warmer temps = thicker oil.

SAE 30: best above 40°F (4°C)
10W-30: works in 0°F to 100°F (-18°C to 38°C)
5W-30: best for below 40°F

"W" = winter, lower number = better cold starts.

For most push mowers, 10W-30 is the go-to - it works fine in a bunch of temps and keeps things happy. Synthetic lasts a bit longer and handles heat better, but regular oil is totally fine if you're changing it each season.

Brand doesn't really matter as long as it meets the mower's spec (check your manual). Don't stress too hard about it - just use the right weight and keep it clean, and your mower'll thank you.

Don't overthink it. 10W-30 synthetic, any brand, check the manual. You're good.

honestly, I’d check the mower’s manual first since different engines can have different recommendations. That said, 10W-30 is pretty common and works well across a range of temps. SAE 30 is also commonly used, especially in warmer weather.

as for synthetic vs. regular, synthetic is totally fine if the manual allows it, but you don’t necessarily need to spend extra on it for a basic mower. Brand doesn’t matter nearly as much as getting the right oil and viscosity and keeping up with oil changes.

so basically, don’t overthink the brand, just make sure you’re using the oil the manufacturer calls for and keep an eye on the oil level. 👍
