Remote Control Lawn Mower – Has Anyone Tried One?

Hello everyone.

I’m considering buying a remote control lawn mower for maintaining a fairly large, uneven property and would appreciate some real-world feedback.

I’ve seen several models advertised with remote steering, adjustable cutting heights, and the ability to handle slopes, but I’m wondering how well they actually perform. Are they reliable for regular mowing, especially in tall or thick grass?

How is the battery life, cutting quality, and remote-control range? I’m also curious about maintenance, replacement parts, and long-term durability.

If you own one, what model do you have, and would you recommend it?

I’ve been looking into these as well, and if you’re trying to keep the cost reasonable without going too cheap, I’d take a look at Mowrator. Their S1 4WD is around $3,100 USD, and it’s designed for uneven terrain and fairly steep slopes. It seems like one of the better options if you want something capable without jumping straight into the really expensive commercial machines.

The biggest thing I’d consider is the terrain rather than just the advertised slope rating. Remote mowers can be really useful on large or uneven properties, especially in areas that are difficult or uncomfortable to mow with a regular mower.

From what I’ve seen, they generally do well with normal grass and thicker growth, but really tall or wet grass can drain the battery much faster and affect the cutting quality. I’d also pay close attention to replacement blades, batteries, and other parts. A mower can work great when it’s new, but parts availability is what really matters a couple of years down the road.

There are also generic Chinese RC mowers available for around $1,000–$2,000 USD, but I’d be a little more cautious with those. The lower price is tempting, but getting replacement parts or support can sometimes be a headache.

If it were me, I’d look for a 4WD model with good slope capability, a decent remote range, and readily available parts. I’d also try to find reviews from someone using the same model on terrain similar to yours. That will tell you much more than the manufacturer’s advertised specs.
