Looking for safe organic stuff for my dog-friendly lawn

I got a backyard where my dogs spend most of their time, so I want to avoid any chemicals that could hurt them. I’ve been using some Scotts products on my front lawn but want to switch to organic stuff for the backyard. Anyone tried pet-safe organic alternatives to Scotts Triple Action, Turf Builder, Summerguard, or Starter Fertilizer? What worked or didn’t? Just wanna keep my pups safe and the grass green. Thanks!

I think using organic compost or worm castings can be really safe for dogs and good for the lawn.

If the pups are out there a lot, go organic

Compost, organic fert (feather meal/kelp based), and corn gluten in spring are popular pet-safe swaps. Won't work as fast as Scotts, but way gentler and better long term.

Mow high + healthy soil = less need for chemicals.

I switched away from the heavy chemical stuff too and honestly, organic has been working pretty solid for me. Stuff like Milorganite 6-4-0 Fertilizer and Espoma Organic Lawn Food has been good-slow release, doesnt burn the grass, and I dont stress as much with the dogs running around after.

If you wanna go even more natural, you cant really go wrong with basic stuff like compost or vermicast (worm castings). Its slower, but super safe and improves the soil over time.

Use slow-release organic lawn fertilizer. Although it works a bit more slowly, it keeps the lawn lush and green without the need for extra herbicides. Additionally, if your dog has a habit of digging or eating things off the ground, avoid using fertilizers containing bone meal or blood meal.

That’s a good point. Slow-release organic fertilizer seems like a much better long-term approach than constantly reaching for herbicides, especially if you have pets using the lawn. I’d definitely avoid bone or blood meal if your dog likes digging around or eating things off the grass. A healthy, thick lawn should also make it harder for those weeds to get established in the first place.
